This is your
invitation...
to enjoy the beautiful landscapes, the
Civil War history, and the wonderful wines of the Northern Virginia area were so
much of the Civil War occurred. Your scouting of the trail will take you through
a land of rolling hills, mountains, sweeping grasslands and rivers. In the
1860’s the Blue and the Gray pushed each other back and forth across these
lands. Today, the whispers of the past linger and one can visit historic towns
and drink in the over-whelming sense of history.
Today swords and cannons have given way to vines, and barrels. The Northern Virginia region is a great and very active wine region. A wonderful way to get to know it is to savor the wines of the wineries that make up the General’s Wine and History Trail. You’ll find a variety of delicious, hand-crafted wines and that special quality of “terroir” – the special relationship between a wine and where it is grown – that is so prized in the old world and so seldom found outside of it these days.
In your Campaign Journal (Passport) you’ll find:
* A listing of the member wineries with contact information & locations
* A map of the General’s Wine and History Trail
* Winery descriptions & nearby History
Good luck with your mission!
